Auburn, Ala. – The City of Auburn’s Planning Department will begin the 2008 Citizens’ Planning Academy on Thursday, September 18, 2008. The academy, open to Auburn residents, will be held in the Development Services Building Conference Room. The class will consist of six sessions held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. The dates for the Citizens’ Planning Academy classes will be:

During the training period, participants will learn how different departments, developers, and individuals interact in the planning process. Participants will also learn about the City of Auburn’s Comprehensive Plan update and other ongoing projects. Other topics include:

OAnow.com is reporting that “Requests to advertise the proposed rezoning of the Shoppes at Capps Farm and a public hearing on the proposed budget for a federal grant are among the items listed on tonight’s Opelika City Council work session agenda.”
You may recall that the development was recently brought before the planning board to approve changes and now it seems they are moving forward.
The Opelika Planning Commission voted unanimously Tuesday to issue a positive recommendation to the city council for a rezoning request by the developers of The Shoppes at Capps Farm.
