Although the official ribbon cutting is not until March 12, 2009 the AuburnBank location at the Bent Creek exit is now open. It is located in the same parking lot as Sam’s Club and Academy Sports.

There was a good crowd on hand for this event. This groundbreaking had been scheduled earlier but due to weather had to be rescheduled after the building had already started. This new venture has several names on it and several hands in the pot. Purina and John Deere as well as SunSouth and Sikes all had a part in this project and getting the building and location.

According to OANow.com:

A possible solution for Indian Hill subdivision residents is again on the Auburn City Council agenda Tuesday night.

The city is considering vacating the right of way – ending the street early – at the end of Indian Hill Road to stop a developer from connecting his road. The council has postponed a vote on issue several times in order to review a traffic impact study of the area.

The Auburn-Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport will hopefully be completed in a year and a half.

Great news for those traveling from the Auburn – Opelika area by plane. Plans have started to make dramatic improvements to the Auburn – Opelika Robert G. Pitts airport.

The terminal was built in 1950, and is currently experiencing peeling paint and chronic leaks.

“We’ve got great use out of it, but it’s too small and doesn’t have the amenities we need to take care of pilots and passengers,” Hutto said.

Along with a new terminal, new taxiways and a new airplane parking area, called a ramp, are planned. The ramp will allow planes to maneuver under their own power instead of being pulled to taxiways.
Four additional hangers will also be built at the new site.

Fuel sales have increased by 50 percent since 2002, and the airport has 29-seat jets landing on its runway, Hutto said.

The new location will help economic development by improving air traffic efficiency and travelers’ first impressions of the city, Hutto said.

“It will be something we can be proud of,” he said. “… It is about being able to serve our community.”
