In a effort to inform us, the uninformed Auburn citizen, there is a new post on OANow.com in regards to the West Pace development on South College. The article attempts to ease our worries about incentives and other concessions given to the development and developer in order to have this new site annexed into the City of Auburn.

I am opening this up for discussion more than trying to push a side but I do want to point out a few things:
The first of which is that the Development has already been started and so it seems less important to give incentives at this point. It would seem to reason that if a developer needed the incentives to attract new businesses it would have been done at an earlier time.
Also, I feel like everyone is skirting around mentioning “the developer” here. Would this be the case if it where the same people that did Tiger Town, East Chase or the Bass Pro Shop?
Finally, I will re-post the first (and only at the time of this article) comment to the OA News story below. It makes sense in that the writer of the article has an interest in getting people to understand the issues as he is describing them. I am not sure if it is common practice or not to have the chair of the Auburn Commercial Development Authority and member and past chair of the Auburn Planning Commission write an article on these issues. It seems like he would be the most qualified and yet have a less objective view than a journalist with expertise in these matters or an outside expert.

Mr McCord has a vested interest legitimizing the West Pace development since he voted to create it. The other projects he referenced in Alabama were built by reputable developers with track records of quality and working with cities. That is not the case here. Auburn has had a plethora of bade developments in recent years. Drive down Richland Road
