Assistant City Manager/CIO Achieves Certified Government CIO Status

Auburn, Ala. – Assistant City Manager/Chief Information Officer (CIO) James C. Buston, III has achieved the designation of Certified Government CIO from the Certified Government Chief Information Officer (CGCIO) Program at the School of Government, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The twelve-month, comprehensive educational program seeks to enhance knowledge in critical areas of public sector IT leadership and management by GMIS International, an association of government IT leaders. Buston was a member of the program’s first graduating class. In addition to his educational achievement, Buston has also been asked to serve on the GMIS Advisory Council, an extension of GMIS International.

“As the role of Information Technology continues to expand in all aspects of government, IT directors are playing an increased role in government management and decision-making,” said City Manager Charles M. Duggan, Jr. “I appreciate Jim’s commitment to continuing his education and providing exceptional leadership and management in our IT functions.”

The City Council will recognize Buston’s achievement at their Tuesday, August 19 meeting.
